Location
Country: The Netherlands
City/region/county: Noord-Brabant
(future) use of location: Public transportation
Built-up location during the active remediation phase?: Yes
Technique
Explanation technique: The remediaton contained:
Excavation of several contarmination sources
Groundwater level lowering (pump & treat)
Extracting soil air for stimulation of aerobe biological degradation
Compressed air injection in de saturated zone for stimulation of aerobe biological degradation
Also other remediation techniques applied?: Excatavation of two contarmination sources.
After care needed?: No
Rationale for the chosen technique: Because of the local situation: NS-railwaytracks leading to/from the platforms from station Bergen op Zoom and the regional bus station complete remediation was only possible through in situ measures. The contamination (petroleum) is biological (aeroob) well degradable. Considering several options the combination of partly excavating during the construction of the in situ systeem, groundwater extraction and compressed air injection is the most costefficient solution within the precondition from the costumer. ISCO is later in de sanering set in for accelaration of the remediation for a few recalcitrant subsector. Tijdens de uitvoering kwam een niet eerder bekende verontreiniging met PAK aan het licht. Deze is ontgraven
