Description technique

Injection of a liquid or a mixture of liquids, mostly alcohol, in which pure product is dissolved. This mixture of water, alcohol and the contamination can then be extracted.

Applicability
This technique is used for poorly water soluble contaminants, such as mineral oil, PAHs, CVOCs and pesticides and can be applied to the saturated and unsaturated zone. This technique requires a moderately to well-drained soil. Co-solvent flushing is applied to the source of the contamination and is often combined with pump and treat and bioremediation.
Comments
The duration of this technique is several weeks to months. The disturbance of the site is low. The extracted fluid should however be treated aboveground.
