Detection and Enhancement of MtBE Degradation
Method to develop cost effective strategies for MtBE remediation (Monitored or Enhanced Natural Attenuation), based upon innovative molecular and chemical monitoring tools. Field data have been used in a multivariate statistical analysis to show correlations between degradation and indicators and criteria have been developed that will be used to develop a decision support system to evaluate Natural Attenuation of MtBE.
The monitoring tools (stable isotope analyses and molecular –DNA analyses) have been validated and are applicable. The decision support system needs to be validated with more field data.

New molecular (DNA) analyses developed for monitoring degradation
Molecular analyses provide insight in the presence and activity of micro-organisms. The results of the analyses can be used to monitor biological degradation of contaminants.
