Case detailed information

General information
Project name: Immobilization zinc ash roads De Kempen (Cranendonck)** Case submitted by: ARCADIS Nederland BV Contact: Mr Joan Ligtenberg Address: Postbus 673, 7300 AR Apeldoorn, The Netherlands Telephone number: +31 55 5815999 Email-address: joan.ligtenberg@arcadis.nl

Technique
In situ remediation technique: Explanation technique: Immobilization. The road construction material that is contaminated with zinc is being mixed with cement and another material that will prevent leaching of metals. Also other remediation techniques applied?: No After care needed?: Yes: maintenance. Rationale for the chosen technique: Countryside roads in the Kempen region are contaminated with zinc ash. Project organization ‘Actief Bodembeheer De Kempen’ wants to remove the zin cash and contaminated soil in the surroundings and immobilize the metals in the soil. A pilot remediation in combination with redevelopment of the road has been carried out; which includesimmobilization of the zinc ash and soil contamination by mixing the material with the product ImmoCem. The resulting material is suitable as road material, meting the civil engineering standards for this type of road. He constructor will be responsible for maintenance of the road for the next 10 years.
